January - "Winter at the Wall"
It is hard to come up with lesser words than to say that the image here is of one of nature's greatest creations. This particular wintery Yosemite moment feels even more sensational and highlights how dynamic the Valley can be. A snow capped El Capitan is seen in the foreground with the "steeple" of Cathedral Rock found to the far right. Graciously tucked away in the distance is perhaps the most recognizable landmark of Yosemite Park: Half Dome. Providing perspective are the trees found about in the photo. There is a lonesome evergreen visible in the swooping fog to the left, which is dwarfed by its surroundings. Also found in the photo are trees that suitably speckle the top of El Capitan's 220 million year old head. And as a comment on a much smaller scale of time, over the years of my visits, the treetop in the foreground has managed to maintain its prominent spot in this poetic scene, as if it were aspiring to be one of the great walls of granite that surround it.
